Lizzy Girl

Lizzy, the garden cat, this morning. It's a little bit of a "where's Waldo" picture, but not too bad. This is a fairly common pose for her.

Canned Peaches

Blow up your T.V. throw away your paper
Go to the country, build you a home
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches
Try an find Jesus on your own
Used the Ball Blue Book method for canning peaches, hotpack style. You boil them briefly, then put in icewater in order to slip the skins. Then simmer them briefly in a medium syrup -- 2.5 c sugar to 5 cups water, something like that. Then hot peaches into hot jar, put on hot cap, tighten band a bit, finally into boiling water for 25 min (quart) or 20 min (pint jar).
I made 3 quart jars and 3 pint jars of peaches. They're going to be tasty in January...

Recent and Semi-Recent Food Pics

Haven't been feeding the blog much lately. We have been eating, though. Massaged kale salad with peaches in it was good. Been eating alot of peaches in general. Lots of rhubarb. Was a terrible year for apricots in Goleta, so I made a bunch of plum jam instead. Anyway, here are some recent dinners:
the oldest new pic. fresh favas on top of pasta, circa probably april
purple carrots from the garden, went into a stir fry
vietnamese crepes with Hearst Ranch ground beef, mung beans that Sara sprouted
a russian recipe, cabbage baked in dough, kind of. wasn't that good, alas...
 basic pasta plate
lamb loin chops, farro, tzatziki, heirloom toms
steamed and then sauteed root veggies, all from the garden: sweet potato, parsnip, purple carrot, yellow carrot, red potato, french fingerling potato
