Killer Waves

It's been a bit of a slow fall here for surf, but in New Zealand the waves have been killer. Errr, there have been killer whales in the waves! Good find Casey.

Sergio Aragonés / OnionAV

An absolutely wonderful interview. He has been a cartoonist for Mad Magazine for a long time and I loved Mad as a kid, so I recognized his name immediately. But even if i wasn't predisposed to like him, there are so many interesting nuggets in the interview. Really, one of the best things I've read in a long time.

the Dirty Life / NPR

I liked this one. It had the potential to be a cutesy back to the land story that doesn't seem realistic/sustainable, but she is walking the walk and talking the talk. In theory I wouldn't mind having a farm, but I'm nowhere near as hardcore as she and her husband are. Butchering animals is emotionally not easy for me, hence I don't eat much meat, but they are doing it. Harvesting 10,000 lbs of potatoes doesn't seem trivial, either. A good listen, and I'm wishlisting the book...

Loretta Lynn / Fresh Air

solid gold.

Eli Wallach / Fresh Air

solid gold. but too short.

Pee-Wee Herman / Fresh Air

starts a little slow, but very funny towards the end

Keith Richards / Fresh Air

slightly combative (misogny in Stones lyrics...), but pretty good natured.

Chorro Grande area, near Ojai

We went up to the Chorro Grande area in the mountains in back of Ojai last weekend. We stopped in Meiners Oaks on the way up; Sara visited with her friend Jen and I tooled around town on my bike, noting all of the fruit trees with fruit on them -- grapefruit, oranges, persimmons, pomegranate, etc. Lovely. The next day Sara went for a hike with the spatial group, I puttered around in the hills on the other side of Sespe Creek. Full album is here.

Why Cats are Better than Dogs #555

Some love from NPR about the physics of how cats drink. Pretty sweet.
