scorpacciata is a word i encountered in the Mario Batali cookbook 'Babbo'. it means to eat not only seasonally, but hyper-seasonally. to consume as much as you can of something, while you can. apricots come to mind. asparagus. heirloom tomatoes. this will be a blog about cooking.... and pop-culture ephemera.... basically the detritus in my brain

I love rock art, petroglyphs and pictographs. So a documentary by Werner Hertzog about a cave in France sounds great! And talking about it with Terry Gross...
Super Yum. Leeks, garlic, chard, ground beef. Rice noodles soaked in hot water till soft. Cilantro, cabbage, korean mint from seeds from the Philomath guys. Nuoc cham with a pimiento chile from the patio.
Stock, leeks, carrots, garlic, ginger, kale stems, brown rice, miso. No browning, just simmering.
Ate it with Shoyu and homemade hot sauce -- made it kind of like hot and sour soup with the vinegar and hot chilies. Good, cause I'm sick -- see below, at school with a tissue up my nose so I don't have to wipe so much....
I finally got to try out my new-to-me Marmot Bastille last weekend. It was supposed to be a quick trip to the SB backcountry and then a hike on the Blue Canyon trail. But our timing was bad, foggy up top made for slow driving, so we just camped on the side of the road. In the morning the fog was still thick, so we bailed. C'est la vie.
