Bound for Glory

I admired this movie more than I loved it, but it's still well worth seeing. It is a biopic of Woody Guthrie, although it only covers a couple of years of his life -- the late 30s, the dust bowl/great depression era. He is revealed as a womanizer, honest worker, fortune teller, musician, songwriter, activist, wanderer. The train hopping scenes were pretty impressive as it was clear that the lead actor, David Carradine, did all of his own stunts. Also, this was the first use of the steadicam, and to great effect, as those train hopping scenes looked great. Seemed like Carradine did his own singing, too, a fine performance. The songs are great. Seeing the context in which the songs were created was interesting. There are quite a few character actors in this that you'll recognize, which is fun. The trailer is on the dry side, but gives a decent feeling for the look of the picture.
