The next village

I heard a story on npr this morning, at the end one of the people (the actress Joan Allen) talked about how acting gave her naturally introverted self an outlet so that she could express herself. Not a revolutionary thing to say, but applicable to me/this blog, so I'm mentioning it....

Anywho. Hope you are enjoying it. If you look at the 'label' histogram I'm sticking pretty close to the original tenets of the blog: food/cooking, dvd, music, npr, with a little detritus thrown in. I downgraded my netflix to 2-a-month for a little while, so thinking about posting reviews of movies in the collection. The Apartment will probably be first up.

Finally, there was a great Anthony Bourdain interview on the Onion AV which includes a bit which basically sums up why I am a food nazi:

AVC: With all of your traveling, do you ever find the time to cook any more?

AB: Professionally? No. It's been some time.

AVC: But for yourself?

AB: For myself? Not much. If I'm back in New York for over a week, yeah. It's tough. I'm married to an Italian woman, and I used to love cooking Italian at home, because it's one-pot cooking. But my wife does not approve of my Italian cooking.

AVC: You're mostly schooled in French cuisine, right?

AB: Well yeah, but I've run what were considered very respectable Italian restaurants. I had a pretty high opinion of my Italian cooking. [Laughs.] Oh well.

AVC: What's her problem with it?

AB: She's a very tough critic. You know, the only thing worse than an American to an Italian is an Italian from the next village. That thinking carries over to the kitchen at home.

That last bit is gold, Jerry. Gold! So there's a whole nation of people like me.... But I'm trying to be more gracious....

Toodles

  1. Yes, I would like to look at the label histogram! Don't be a graph-tease, chart and deliver my friend!
